When Google made its AI chatbot Bard available to a wider public, the reactions were quite restrained. In a direct comparison with ChatGPT or Bing Chat, it quickly became apparent that Google’s solution is much more limited in functionality. In a recent interview, Google CEO Sundar Pichai emphasizes that this was intended, but that major updates should follow quickly.

The Limitations

Pichai stated in a recent podcast interview with The New York Times that during the announcement of Bard, it seems to have been overlooked that a rather small language model was deliberately chosen as a basis for the first version in order to approach the topic cautiously and to gather initial experience.
